The mid-year “vibe check”: Is your money moving towards your “why”?
Six months into the year, one thing is certain: time moves faster than intentions.
While markets have shifted and opportunities have come and gone, the most important question isn't what's happening around you—it's whether your financial decisions are still moving you towards your goals.
Now is the perfect time for a mid-year financial vibe check.
Think back to the financial goals you set at the beginning of the year. Have you made meaningful progress? Is every rand you earn, save, or invest bringing you closer to your "why", or has life quietly pulled you off course?
Here are five questions to help you find out.
1. What is your "why"?
Whether it's buying a home, building wealth, starting a business, or achieving financial freedom, your financial decisions should always support your bigger purpose.
2. Are you making progress?
Take note of how far you've come towards your goals. Are you closer than you were at the beginning of the year?
Even small, consistent steps are worth celebrating because they add up over time.
3. How much are you investing in your future?
Review how much of your income you're putting towards savings and investments each month. If that percentage has declined, it may be time to revisit your budget and prioritise your long-term goals.
4. Does every rand have a purpose?
Intentional money management means giving every rand a job—whether that's covering expenses, growing your investments, or building long-term financial security.
5. Do your habits match your goals?
Your financial future is shaped by the decisions you make consistently, not occasionally. If your current habits aren't moving you forward, now is the perfect time to reset.
Halfway through the year is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and refocus.
Your income pays for the life you live today. Your financial decisions shape the life you'll live tomorrow.
If you looked back at where every rand has gone over the past six months, would it tell the same story as the future you're trying to build?
